Influenster Venus® Snap with Embrace Review

After a recent hiatus on my blog, I am back! School has kept me pretty busy, so sorry for the lack of content. In this review, I will let you know all about the Venus Snap mini razor (solely my opinion).

For starters, check out that rad plaid tablecloth! Onto more serious business, here is what the mini razor looks like. It is included in a convenient, blue plastic flip container. The back of the blue container also contains a few perforated holes to help air out the razor after use and prevent rust. I do enjoy the design of this case.

Voila, the mini razor! This handle is incredibly small, which is great for me since I have small hands, but honestly I found it to be a little too small. The grip is large enough just for a couple of fingers, but if you want to be more precise to avoid injury, you might want a bigger handle.

The razor included with this "starter version" is a Venus Embrace, the most basic, simple Venus razor out there. Now, this is also the cheapest of the refill blades. (I noticed how they skimped a little...)

Personally, I did not like the razor overall. It is a nice concept, but over the years, the quality of Venus razors has slowly declined. I find they do dull faster, and I am more prone to getting razor burn even if I use shaving cream. These little razors are also quite pricey-spotted on Amazon for $10.61. The kit does NOT include refill blades, much like most Venus razor starter kits. So, if you are short on space or if you seriously miss a few stray hairs all the time, this item may be for you.

NYC HD Color Trio from the Jolly VoxBox Review

Eyeshadow isn't really my thang, but I decided I would give it a whirl for the sake of my VoxBox tasks! ;D Shown below is the Central Park Plums palette. In my VoxBox, I got the Long Beach Sands palette, which has a more natural tone.

Here is what Influenster says about the HD Color Trio:

"HD Color Trio Eye Shadow delivers high intensity color with a silky soft texture. This lightweight formula blends effortlessly for the ultimate smoky eye look."

Image from influenster.com

One thing I really liked about this product was the fact that the instructions were included. Most make up products have little to no instructions, and most of them don't include pictures, so it was nice to know NYC cares! Instructions for the eyeshadow are as follows: Step 1. Apply the highlighter (the top color) to the browbone and inner corner of eye. Step 2. Apply the second shade all over lid. Step 3. Blend the medium shade (third color) into the crease.
This eyeshadow was difficult to apply. The colors do not stick to your lids very well and the colors are not strong. You need to apply a lot of product for a bolder look. The palette is a bit chalky.

Final Rating: 4/10

How Much: Prices range from 2-3 dollars

NYC New York Color Big Bold Gloss Review

I received ANOTHER VoxBox from Influenster this month. Yay! This VoxBox was called the Varsity Voxbox. This blog post will focus on one of the products I received in this box: NYC Big Bold Gloss. This lip gloss is a "plumping" gloss. Here is what Influenster has to say about Big Bold Gloss.

Have you always dreamed of the full, plump lips? Get voluminous lips in one effortless stroke with NYC’s Big Bold Plumping & Shine Lip Gloss! This sultry gloss adds up to 50% more volume and four hours of shine for lasting wear!

First of all, I hardly ever EVER wear lip gloss. I am a chapstick kind of gal (Baby Lips by Maybelline and EOS are my current favorites.). Of course, an exception was made for this VoxBox product! While I have heard of plumping lip glosses, I have never actually used any, so I was not quite sure of what to think. This was the first product I tried.

The shade I received is called "Pleasantly Plump Pink." It is a nice, subtle pink and it blends into my lip's natural color quite nicely. The smell is chemically and not very pleasant. After putting it on, I could feel the stickiness and my lips had a strange tingling sensation. I did not really notice any difference with this lip gloss. My lips looked exactly the same! Overall, I do not suggest this product.

Olay Fresh Effects Cleanser Review - Paradise VoxBox 2013

This review will focus on one of the products I received in my Paradise VoxBox.  Here is what Influenster says about the Olay Fresh Effects Shine, Shine Go Away cleanser:

Olay Fresh Effects {Shine, Shine Go Away!} Shine Minimizing Cleanser delivers a deep, down-to-the-pores clean, to minimize shine – even after you leave the sink! Made for the 24/7 chica-on-the-go, this refreshingly fruity and floral scented rinse has all the purifying power of a mask with the fresh feel of a daily cleanser.

Olay Fresh Effects {Shine, Shine Go Away!} Shine Minimizing Cleanser refreshes skin and minimizes shine leaving it day and night ready! Add this cleanser to your morning regimen for a deep clean and a refreshing scent experience. Benefits include:
-Removes 2x more dirt, oil and makeup vs. basic cleansing
-Formulated with Kaolin Clay, this cleanser lifts away impurities and helps minimize shine

This is the second time I have received this cleanser from Influenster, and the second time I have been disappointed. The perfume in this cleanser is too strong for me, though not unpleasant. A little does go a long way and the lather is nice, but after about a week of use my face gets very dried out and starts peeling. I would not recommend this for anyone who has sensitive skin. Of course, face products are different for everyone, so do not be scared to give this one a try!

Final rating: 5/10
Where to Buy: Walgreens, Walmart, drugstore.com, Target
How much: Average price is 6.99 for 5 oz.

NYC New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust

I received a VoxBox from Influenster this month called the Paradise VoxBox. It was filled with five different items Influenster felt represented Latina women. I am Latina, but I've only ever used one of these products before. The product I will be focusing on for this particular review is called NYC Sparkle Eye Dust.

Sparkle Eye Dust Eye Shadow is available in 10 glamorous shades. Dazzling sparkle adds a dramatic, light-catching appearance to the eye. The dust contains emollient ingredients for a soft, silky feel.
  • Light reflecting properties provide a dazzling sparkle and luminous appearance
  • The soft, silky powder is effortlessly blended to provide adjustable color coverage and intensity
(All information taken from www.influenster.com)

Typically, I DO NOT wear eye make-up. I am a college student and ain't nobody got time fo' dat. I decided to try this eye dust, regardless. It has a smooth texture and the color is nice deep, coconutty brown with intense sparkle and shine. The texture, as Influenster says is smooth. It clumped up as I put it on my eyelids and does not spread very well, without looking trashy. I was very disappointed in the performance of this eye shadow and do not plan on buying it.

Final Rating: 2/10
Where to Buy: Walgreens, Walmart, Drugstore.com
How much: 2.70 for 2.1 g

Not Your Mother's® Beach Babe™ Texturizing Sea Salt Spray-Review #3!

Also recieved compliments of Influenster in the Sweetheart Voxbox, was the Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. (That's a mouth full!) Check out the info for this product on the Influenster product page. (: http://www.influenster.com/review/not-your-mothers-beach-babe-texturizing-sea-salt-spray

Influenster says: "Now every day can be a day at the beach or, at least your hair can look like it has been there! Rock a sexy beach look and get texturized with tousled waves! No frizz or fly-aways - embrace your hair’s natural waves and let Not Your Mother’s BEACH BABE™ do the rest.

Infused with natural Dead Sea salt & sea kelp this salon formula has everyone fooled into thinking you just left the beach. It adds sexy, windswept waves and a light matte finish to any hair type.

PRODUCT FACTS
- Creates random texture and waves
- Gives flat styles more volume
- Adds more hold to up dos
- Sea Kelp helps add natural shine to hair

STYLING TIPS & EFFECTS
It’s super easy to use – just spritz onto damp or dry hair then use fingers to create random waves and body (or for ultra-volume use a diffuser and lightly blow dry)."

I was excited to try this stuff out. I heard about it before, but hadn't seen it in stores. It has a nice beachy smell but I don't think it worked for my hair type. I sprayed it on my hair after I got out of the shower, and it made my hair feel matted and sticky. It didn't make it wavy, just frizzy, which coincidentally is exactly what happens when I go to the beach. Maybe it will work for your hair type? Let me know below in the comments! This spray retails for $6 at your local drugstore or Ulta.
